FAQ - Year 7

We hope that these questions may be of assistance to you as you consider Secondary School at The Lakes College for your child.

How early do we need to lodge an application for Year 7?

To ensure your child is registered and in the waiting pool for Year 7, it is suggested that you lodge an application for your child early. Applications are drawn from the waiting pool based on the criteria in our enrolment policy and one of these criteria is 'date of application'.

How many places are available in Year 7?

Availability of places in Year 7 are based on vacancies in the current Year 6 cohort. Offers are made according to vacancies.

We have already received a number of registrations for Year 7 in 2019. Please click here to see the timeline for Year 7 entry in 2019.

How do we register or enrol?

Please register your child online and to avoid delays in the enrolment process please ensure you have:

  • included a copy of your child's birth certificate/passport
  • include copies of recent school reports and other reports
  • completed all fields of the application (both natural parent details need to be included)
  • checked all of your contact details are correct

We're in the Waiting Pool. What happens next?

Once you submit an application for registration, your child's name is added to the waiting pool and you will receive notification from the College via email.

In March prior to the year of commencement, names are drawn from the waiting pool in accordance with the College's enrolment policy. You may be contacted by email to commence the interview process for your child. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date. You can email changes through at anytime to registrar@thelakes.qld.edu.au. Sometimes there are a lot more applications than places. We will keep you notified of any movements.

As mentioned above, we have already received a number of registrations for Year 7 (2019). Those in the waiting pool will be contacted for interviews based on the criteria in our enrolment policy. You may not be contacted immediately for an interview, but you will be advised of your child's progress in the waiting pool.

We've had our Interview. What happens next?

Following on from your child's enrolment interview, a letter of offer may be made. This offer letter will be emailed to the email address provided. Please respond to your letter of offer, with the non-refundable $400.00 Confirmation Fee paid by the due date.

If you do not respond to your offer by the due date, your child's offer will be withdrawn and their name returned to the waiting pool. Due to the demand for places in Year 7 we are unable to extend offers.

We may also ask you for additional reports at your interview. To avoid delays in our enrolment process please provide these as soon as possible.

A great way to familiarise yourself with TLC is to visit us:

  • Please come along to our Enrolment Events in 2018.
  • Come along to the Open Morning on Wednesday 15 August (from 8:45am-10:15am) - BRISBANE EKKA SHOW DAY
  • Register your child for the second "Experience Year 7 Day" on Monday 29 October [pre-registration required]
  • Bring your child to one of the many "Settling in Sessions" being held in Term 4, from Thursday 11 October.

Our child is nervous about starting at a new school as he doesn't know anyone. Can you help?

It is completely normal for children to feel anxious about starting at a new school. We encourage your child to attend one or both of our Experience Days and to attend as many of the Settling in Sessions as possible. Your child will be allocated a buddy on the Experience Days and Settling in Sessions. Coming to visit the College regularly will help your child to settle in to their new surroundings and also help them make new friends before the next school year commences.

If you are unable to make any of the Experience Days or Settling in Sessions, we can arrange another time for your child to visit TLC.
