Secondary School

Our specialist Secondary years’ learning programs aim to engage each student in learning while challenging them to grow. Students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of subjects that will equip them with the knowledge needed to succeed in life beyond the classroom. To support our students, our vertical house based system of pastoral care focuses on mutual respect, whilst equipping students with the right life and inter-personal skills to enable them to grow as individuals within our Christian community.

Junior Secondary Curriculum

Curriculum in the Junior Secondary (Years 7-9) is designed to engage students in a breadth of experiences across a range of core subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Chinese (Years 7 and 8) and Faith and Values Education.

Students are also able to choose from a number of elective subjects including Visual Arts, Media Arts, Music, Drama, STEAM, Digital Technologies, Industrial Arts, Legal Studies, Dance, Business Studies, ICT, and Home Economics (cooking and textiles).

Teaching and Learning in the Middle School has a strong skills focus, and emphasis is placed on developing effective learning habits, ensuring that students are well positioned to achieve their very best in the Senior Secondary.

Senior Secondary Curriculum

Year 10 is considered the Beginning Phase of Senior Secondary, and as such students are able to engage in the same courses available to students in Years 11 and 12. All Year 10 courses have the skills and content, as prescribed by Year 11 and 12 Queensland Curriculum and Assessment (QCAA) Syllabi, backward mapped into Year 10. Students are thus well prepared to meet the demands of the new Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance (SATE/ATAR) System. All students in Year 10 undertake English on Line 1 and must select between General Mathematics or Mathematics Methods on Line 2. Lines 3-6 are similar to the corresponding Years 11-12 lines. This includes the offering of specific certificate courses, as part of alternate pathway offerings, where possible. Students start SET Planning (see the Pathways and Careers page) in Year 9, to adequately prepare for Year 10 subject selection.

In Years 11 and 12, students can either continue with their chosen courses or elect to change following rigorous discussion, supported by the College’s dedicated Pathways and Careers arm.

Students study six specialist subjects, electing to either follow an ATAR or alternate education pathway. The College offers a range of VET options utilising various RTOs, TAFE In Schools and other organisations.
